Hi everyone—
I hope your 2025 is starting well!
It’s the last day of the first month of the year, and I’d like to share an announcement about a project I’ve been working on for a while now.
In honour of the 100th year anniversary of The New Yorker this year, I am doing a special project for this newsletter.
This is: My Year With The New Yorker
For Saran Wrapped Letters in 2025, it is all about The New Yorker all day, every day, all year, this year.
Here is the context behind this project:
For one thing: I love The New Yorker
Ever since its founding in 1925, the magazine has been publishing political and cultural commentary, reporting, fiction, poetry, art and humour at a depth, range and consistency that is awe-inspiring and almost mystifying.
To put it in rough terms, The New Yorker has been like a conveyor belt of excellence and pure awesomeness—on a weekly basis and for an entire century.
Simply put: Of all the magazines that are published today, The New Yorker reigns supreme.
(That’s my opinion anyway, and it goes without saying that all opinions expressed here are mine only.)
Another thing: I love fangirling
In Saran Wrapped Letter #22, I fangirled over Liz Gilbert.
Liz Gilbert (LG) is also my Literary Godmother (LG).
In Saran Wrapped Letter #8, I fangirled over Taylor Swift.
(I don’t wanna brag but my knowledge of the TS discography runs deep.)
In Saran Wrapped Letter #4, I even (kind of) fangirled over Toronto’s public transit system.
(What can I say. I was in a particularly bubbly state of mind that day.)
In 2025, I decided to channel all of my fangirling energy toward a singular unifying theme of The New Yorker.
This newsletter will run on a monthly basis, and every month in 2025, a new post will go out that will be related to The New Yorker in some way, shape or form.
The first post will go out in February, the month of The New Yorker’s first ever issue back in 1925.
Join me in a year-long celebration by staying subscribed (or subscribing if you have not already.) Do you have friends who love The New Yorker? Feel free to tell them about this Substack project.
Stay tuned for the first post coming up in February!
Thank you for being here.
A quick disclaimer: I am not affiliated with The New Yorker. The views expressed are only my own and don’t represent the views of organizations and/or individuals I am associated with. I’m just a writer doing a fun project celebrating my favourite magazine.

This is so exciting! I love the fresh direction and can't wait to read the upcoming post.
That cover is so cute. And I love this idea! Great to see you’ve picked out a thread in your posts and are expanding on it this with project. Excited to see what you share (since I’ve only read The New Yorker casually).
