Welcome to the first Saran Wrapped Letter!
Since I feel that I’ve already inundated you with a lot of background information in the welcome letter, I’ll keep this letter short. The content format will differ from post to post, and this is not necessarily how the other letters will be like. One constant thing will be that all of the letters will end with a mention of at least one thing that has made my life more delightful (e.g., picture, poetry, song, quote etc.)
In this first letter, I’m not sharing a piece of my writing per se. The idea of starting this newsletter came to my mind as recently as a few days ago, and when I woke up this morning, I felt that either I was launching this today or I will talk myself out of it. Before the latter happens, I thought I would just dive in headfirst and see where it takes me.
So I don’t (yet) have a piece of writing I’m ready to share, but instead I’d like to share with you three things that have added a whole lot of delight in my life recently. I’m always trying to find more delight in my own life because I feel that the more actively I make space for it, the more of it I find.
Three delightful things:
An interview of writer Anthony Doerr at his Danish publisher in Copenhagen. In this interview of 26 minutes, Doerr talks about the power of books, writing and literature. I was in awe of how Doerr beautifully articulates what writing and books mean in the world, and what his own creative inspiration is. I LOVED IT! This is the video of Anthony Doerr’s interview:
A Spotify playlist of French Jazz Café songs that are simply marvelous! It’s especially great if you sometimes like to pretend you’re in the South of France (I do that sometimes, lol.) This is the link to the Spotify playlist.
The Substack Newsletter ‘Letters from Love’ recently launched by the one and only Elizabeth Gilbert! I highly encourage you to subscribe to this as it’s looking to be absolutely incandescent! Liz’s newsletter has been a major inspiration for me in starting this newsletter. Even though there is a paid tier to make comments and engage, Liz has said that her own love letters will always be free. Here is the link: https://elizabethgilbert.substack.com/
Thank you so much for reading all of this and joining me on this ride!
The next letter will include more of my own writing rather than recommendations and I look forward to sharing that with you in two weeks.
I’m always on the lookout for more delight and if you feel at all inclined to share what is making your life delightful, I’d love to know that!
With lots of saran wrapped love,
Saran
PS: Here is a picture of me hugging Elizabeth Gilbert when I met with her earlier this year. I was overjoyed to finally meet her in person. She is extremely radiant, gracious and a lot taller than I’d thought her to be :)
